What We Do
Civic Beautification
Town Hall Gardens & Urns
The club maintains and waters the urns and garden beds at Town Hall and partnered with the Town Conservation staff in May of 2021 to plant the pollinator garden in front of Town Hall which has been linked to the "Pollinator Pathway." In addition, the club designed and planted the other garden beds over the last few years, planted the ground cover ajuga on either side of the entrance and beds where nothing else would grow. All of this dedication and work by club members has provided an inviting and attractive entrance to the offices at Town Hall.
Stevens Memorial Library Urns & Chestnut St.Trough
The club plants, maintains and waters 4 urns at the library entrances and the trough at the end of Chestnut St. across from the Stevens Coolidge Place. The plants are updated in the spring, summer and fall.
Parson Barnard House Gardens
The club schedules workdays from April to October to plant and maintains the gardens at this historic property owned by the North Andover Historical Society.
Patriots Memorial Park Fall & Spring Cleanup
Club members join the North Andover Improvement Society, Scouts and neighbors in the spring and fall to prune, weed and spread mulch. Since This is a 20 year plus year tradition of beautification work at the Olmsted-designed Patriots Memorial Park across from the library.
Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903)
“In good times and in times of crisis, parks and open spaces give people of all walks of life a place
to connect, to find common ground, to foster physical and mental wellbeing.”
Wreath Decorating Workshop for Town Buildings
The clubs holds a greens workshop in late November to decorate and distribute 25 wreaths for display on North Andover town buildings during the holidays.
Community Outreach
Stevens Memorial Library Weekly Floral Arrangements
Stevens Memorial Library Weekly Floral ArrangementsClub members sign up to create a floral arrangement for display in the Stevens Memorial Library from September through June.
Garden Therapy
Garden Therapy consists of six hands-on workshops of themed floral arranging with residents of our local assisted living facilities and the Senior Center.
Farmers Market & Fall Festival
Our club's presence at the Farmers Market in June and Fall Festival in September afford us the opportunity to interact with our community and educate the public about what we do.
Christmas Kindness
Our members coordinate with the Youth Center's Holiday Gift Drive by providing local grocery and retail store gift certificates for distribution to families in need in North Andover. Our generous members have raised more than
$1000 each year for this in-the-spirit-of-the-season community effort.
Scholarships
In memory of former member Richard Kulpinski, the club funds two annual scholarships to
high school seniors. For more information click here.
Plant Sale
Our club holds an annual plant sale which is our major fundraiser. Active members donate
a minimum of five plants. Every plant is locally grown and therefore, tends to be tried,
tested and more successful in people’s gardens.
Proceeds from our sale fund our programs and activities, including two annual scholarships
for graduating high school students majoring in horticulture or environmental studies.
The community is incredibly supportive of our efforts.
