Membership
Mission Statement: Our mission is to encourage interest and active participation in civic
beautification, horticulture, flower arranging and conservation.

Our members are brought together by a love of gardening, an interest in the purpose of
the club and a willingness to share in the club’s activities and responsibilities.
Programs and Workshops

Most programs are held September through June on the second Tuesday of the month and
start at 7pm. Meeting locations vary within the local community. Programs are open to the
public; workshops are for members only.
Committees

Members actively participate on at least one of the following working committees:
Hospitality: organize the hospitality service and supplies to program and special event hostesses.
Publicity and Facebook: promote the Club’s activities with the use of social media, create and distribute flyers at various local establishments and provide press releases to local papers.
Membership: contact new and current members, receive applications, provide information to prospective members and update membership and email distribution lists. Help assimilate new members into the Club.
The Grapevine newsletter: write and email a monthly newsletter to update members on programs, NAGC news and local gardening events.

Programs: contact, arrange and manage Club programs that meet the interests of and also educate Club members and the community.
Website: maintain the website and update content as needed.
Scholarship: foster and maintain working relationships with guidance counselors at local high school, vocational, technical and private schools. Publicize the scholarship in print and social media, evaluate applications, select an award recipient and present the scholarship.
Member Chloe Peterson:
I joined the club because of my passions for gardening, native plants and community service. I’m involved in Patriots Park cleanups, the annual plant sale and writing a newsletter column — I enjoy the opportunities to give back to our community that the garden club offers.
Member Jean Kosky:
I joined the club after I moved here from New York City, hoping to meet new neighbors and learn more about gardening. Everyone has been so patient with me, and I’ve learned so much from the members. Now I help organize our booths at the North Andover Farmers Market and Fall Festival.
Civic Beautification: design, plant and maintain local beautification projects. This includes maintaining watering and updating as needed the Town Hall garden beds and urns. In addition, the club plants and water the trough on the traffic island at the end of Chestnut St. and across from the Steven Coolidge Place and the urns at the front entrance Stevens Library. Members also participate in the spring and fall cleanup of Patriot’s Park.
Parson Barnard: plant and maintain the herb and dye gardens at the historic North Andover property.
Garden Therapy: conduct hands-on workshops of garden-related activities at local assisted living and nursing facilities, and at NA Senior Center.
