Our History

In 1920, the world was recovering from its first Great War. Women were finally getting the right to vote in the United States. And on Aug. 5 of that year, in the thriving town of North Andover, a woman named Mary Bigelow launched the North Andover Garden Club.

Now, 100 years later, our club is still going strong, cultivating color into our town’s landscape. In 2020, the North Andover Garden Club held its100th anniversary celebration outside at the Parson Barnard House, where the club has nurtured gardens full of native plants and herbs in raised boxes for the past several years. At that celebration, the club unveiled a new stone, engraved with the words "Forget Me Not," to remember the countless people over the past century who have contributed to what is now one of the oldest federated garden clubs in Massachusetts.

Our club's 100 Years history book to commemorates this milestone and it

was awarded the Publications Award by the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts in 2021.
